Now that I've successfully restarted the writing process for This Falling Eden and settled into a routine that allows me to work on it several times a week, I decided I can resume working on YouTube videos in August. The first in line are my DX clips from this past tropo season, moving onto the (in progress) e-skip season, and finally back to bandscans. However there will not be as much time per week as before, so there will be some workflow changes reflected on my channel.
I started posting DTV and FM DX as full season compilations in 2014. That year had enough tropo to make the compilation format shine, and e-skip would hit its stride in 2015 (enough to merit a two-parter ). But 2016 sucked, making it a struggle to pull enough material together to make the videos. 2017 has been better, in spite of the writing project taking my focus off the radio; but between the low point in our sunspot cycle, a flurry of local LPFMs, and my reduced time to edit these things for YouTube I've decided to change how I upload clips.
For 2017 and the foreseeable future my Digital TV clips will be uploaded individually, and only the notable catches (generally those farther than Gainesville). This is the way most other DXers on YouTube do it, but worry not, sidebar graphics will still set my material apart, LOL. I just need to figure out how to open and close these short videos. As for FM I'll do videos for individual openings. Tropo catches must be notable, same as TV, and I may also pass on short e-skip openings that kick up nothing interesting.
TV Bandscan videos will not be effected. Cities I plan to scan by the end of the year are, in order: Atlanta, Charleston, Richmond, Raleigh, and Akron. This road trip to the Northeast will not be the bandscan frenzy 2015's was. And the plans I do have can change.
My catches in June and July will show up in the logbook before the YouTube channel. Comments about the format change? Lemme know!
