Wake Up! Pro
was written in Visual Basic 6, which was designed for Windows 98 and
works well under Windows XP. Vista users, see below. If Vista
instructions don't work on Windows 7, please let
me know .
Windows Vista users: You
have to log in with an administrator account before installing. Even
then, Wake Up! Pro may install but not run because MCI32.OCX and
MSFLXGRD.OCX weren't registered properly. Here's the fix:
- Run the NSIS installer first so
the .OCX files will be there.
- Go to Start >
Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
(right click) > Run As Administrator
- If you're an administrator, the
title bar should reflect your 'administrator'-ness; otherwise, enter an
admin password.
- Type in (sorry, no copy and
paste): regsvr32.exe C:\windows\system32\MCI32.OCX
and hit Enter, you should know pretty fast whether it worked or not. I'm
assuming Vista is installed on the C: drive, replace the letter if it
isn't. On Vista x64, type "SysWOW64" instead of
"system32". Ditto for the next step.
- Now type in: regsvr32.exe
C:\windows\system32\MSFLXGRD.OCX and hit Enter. Close the
prompt window and launch WUP.
- If there are still problems, lemme
know
. Also, the logging function will only work if you
set the filename somewhere in the C:\Users\(your
user name)\Documents\ folder.
Windows XP users: Wake
Up! Pro shouldn't have any problems.
Windows
98/Me users: Your computer may not have VB6 Runtime files
installed. If you see the error on the right when
you try to run Wake Up! Pro, then you may need these
drivers. Fortunately, Microsoft has a file that
will install them, to get it
click
here
.
Note: The installer
does not require these files, you wouldn't see the MSVBVM60.DLL message
until you try to run WUP for the first time.

Notice: As time marches on and
priorities change, I have decided to cancel development of WUP version
3. I never resumed using it after my first computer died, and my
interest has since gone to finishing my novel. Now that Caffeine is
done, I find that writing software just isn't on the "to do" list
anymore (which already includes a second novel).
As of November 12, 2009, Wake Up! Pro is no longer
supported; though its last version will remain available on egrabow.com
for the near future. I thank the many people who sent me comments and
beta-tested this program. A few bugs were never worked out, and the
program has never been redone for Vista/OS X/Linux (these were plans
for version 3). For anyone who wishes to take the reins, Wake
Up! Pro's source-code is
posted here and may be developed under the under the GNU license.

Welcome to the official website of Wake Up! Pro, an alarm clock program
designed for insomniacs (such as yours truly). The reason I created it is because it takes a lot to get me out of bed sometimes, my three alarm clock can all be shut off...
One day (on which I overslept) I came up with an idea: to use my PC as an
alarm clock that would not let me go back to sleep. Written in
Visual Basic 6, WUP can be a
harmless clock on your desktop or a relentless noise machine, according to
the options you select. The following is a list Wake Up! Pro's features:
- Up to 100 alarms that can be set to go off every day or only on certain
days of the week, or only on set dates.
- Option to require a shutoff code (that makes you think as soon as you
stumble out of bed, rather than sleepwalk and hit "ENTER" habitually).
- Optional LOCK feature can make it really tough to end the program and go
around that pesky code, he he...
- Unlimited snooze... if you want. Disabling snooze button
after 2 uses more fun, though!
- Error Trapping can prevent you from accidentally setting alarm for
8:00 ***PM****. (that was a close one...)
- Use any .WAV, .MP3, .WMA, AIFF, or MIDI file as your alarm tone and/or use your computers internal beep (with
varying volume or duration). Wake Up! Pro can change the sound each
time an alarm sounds so you don't 'develop a tolerance' to one sound
(keeps things fresh).
- 'Quick Set' alarms can be set in a few seconds and delete themselves
automatically.
- Hourly chimes can be turned on/off by alarms and customized to play
certain sounds at certain times of day.
- Different view modes (Slim, Panel, MAX), colors and fonts can be customized. Switch views with Ctrl+(number)
- Store view settings with up to 98 user-settable view presets.
- Format the onscreen time and date several different ways.
- Pop-up messages can remind you why you're being brutally nagged out of bed
sooooo early!!!!
- WUP can 'chirp' once every 20 seconds after you shut off the alarm,
just to make sure you're not dozing off again.
- MANUAL mode can be used to preview alarm behavior.
- This awesome program (well, I think so) is free! No nag-windows/
advertising/ expiration/ limitations, ever!

.pdf

The Chassis, using the 'Center Channel' View Preset

New in 2.5: Quick access to View Presets
Set
to 'SAFE', if you don't need mega-alarm features. 'FULLY
ARMED' lets Wake Up! Pro throw its whole arsenal at your sleepy butt
(but you still have to set the alarms to have teeth).

Error Trapping can warn you before setting an alarm that will never go
off (or will go off at the wrong time!)

Totally customizable hourly chimes

Shutoff code

Create new alarms based on existing ones (good for making a bunch of
similar ones in one shot)
<< Loads of features (View Preset settings, Alarm
settings)

Comments are welcome!
Do you find Wake Up! Pro useful? Spread the word about it!
"Just
to let you know before I started to use your alarm clock I was always late
for work. Now man, I curse at your program when it wakes me up, 5 minutes
later I thank it!" - Chris
"Thanks to you, I can't sleep walk to the alarm and shut it off anymore...
wonderful!" - Hannah
Wake Up! Pro may well be the perfect program to fit your needs, though your needs in a PC alarm clock may be different. There are a lot of other programs out there, but as far as I know WUP is the only one designed to
not shut down when your cranky-morning self tries to make it stop
(remember, nags you out of bed).
I thought about listing a bunch of my, eer..., competitors and linking to their
pages. What stopped me is the fact that most other programs come
with a price tag, lengthy terms of agreement, men in suits, all that BS; and that they may not want the link. If anyone is introducing their own,
similar, program and wants to trade hyperlinks (I link to you, you to me...),
then just let me know. I'm a big believer in free software. You can always go to google.com and type in "alarm clock
program". Happy hunting, and thanks for choosing Wake
Up! Pro. | |
