As eager as I am to finish writing and editing This Falling Eden , there's still a long way to go. I knew when I was getting into this how much of a time suck it would be (much more so than Caffeine
had been), but after shoveling weekend after weekend into it on-and-off for years, I'm wearing myself out and need to pace myself better.
The realization came to me after I tried to make a new publication deadline stick (the original one was 2015, LOL). I decided I could make 2025, as in all three books of the trilogy in 2025. But as real life slows things down and I stick to my guns on quality, something's gotta give. I've been giving the bulk of my free time to This Falling Eden for years. Over three years in Orlando and I haven't done as much as I could've without the writing project. Will I reach the finish line in 2025, with a book I wrote as a hobby and expect no fanfare at all for... only to regret spending so much of my late 30s and early 40s on this one thing?
With a thousand hours or so still ahead of me, I've decided I can space the writing schedule out more. I'll cut down to three days a week, before work hours. My Saturdays, at least, will go back to leasure. I still want to take up tennis, get involved with amateur radio, and do more exploration of my new home city. These things have happened slowly, but now it's the book that needs to slow down. I still intend to release all three in a single year (which means the first will be sitting around while I finish the other two), but I won't be picky about which year.
There's so much to life. Writing is just one part of it. :)
